As mentioned, a BSB is a six digit code that helps banks and financial institutions to identify a particular bank account. The format for a BSB code is:
- 2 digit code – related to the Bank of the account
- 1 digit code – related to the state of Australia the account is in
- 3 digit code – related to the branch/location of the bank
